ATM Security |
| |
|
ATM SKIMMING is when a device is attached over the ATM's card reader so as to read and transmit the card's number. The thieves also place a hidden camera near the key pad terminal in order to record the customer's PIN number. Once a card is used in the machine the thieves have a record of the card details and its pin number. These take time to set up and are generally only attached to unattended street facing ATM’s. |
|
The easiest way to combat card skimming is to use an indoor ATM located within view of the staff.
Some other security measures are:
· Do not use the ATM if there is any evidence of tampering or alterations.
· Do not receive help from any strangers, or hand your card over to anyone at an ATM.
· Do not allow anyone to know or see your PIN.
· Shield the keypad with your hand as you enter the numbers to avoid hidden cameras.
· Keep your ATM receipts. |
