ATM Security

ATM SKIMMING is when a device is attached over the ATM's card reader so as to read and transmit the card's number. The thieves also place a hidden camera near the key pad terminal in order to record the customer's PIN number. Once a card is used in the machine the thieves have a record of the card details and its pin number. These take time to set up and are generally only attached to unattended street facing ATM’s.

The easiest way to combat card skimming is to use an indoor ATM located within view of the staff.

Some other security measures are:

·         Do not use the ATM if there is any evidence of tampering or alterations.

·         Do not receive help from any strangers, or hand your card over to anyone at an ATM.

·         Do not allow anyone to know or see your PIN.

·         Shield the keypad with your hand as you enter the numbers to avoid hidden cameras.

·         Keep your ATM receipts.
